The Mess I'm In
Apr. 10th, 2014 10:28 amPhil sat back in his desk chair in his office aboard the Bus and watched the news from the bank of TVs across from him. His computer was up and running with various news sites open and all were running the same story.
Captain America takes down SHIELD.
He sighed quietly to himself. Captain America didn’t take down SHIELD, he took down HYDRA. Of course, the news wouldn’t catch the difference. They only saw a building fall down and massive amounts of information spill into the world that had SHIELD stamped all over it. All of Natasha’s secrets were out and he was a little proud she had let it out. She was giving up the demons of her past and he was around to see her become the hero he knew she could be.
His computer pinged as it pulled another file from the data stream, another piece of the puzzle as to how he was brought back from the dead and why. It meant his death and resurrection were now public knowledge. All his old friends would know he was alive all this time and never contacted them.
Well, not all his old friends. Sitwell was HYDRA and God, it made Phil want to throw something that he never noticed his best friend inside SHIELD was a double agent. All those years, all those secrets he trusted Jasper with and the bastard was a traitor the whole time. He couldn’t wait to see who else had betrayed everything he believed in.
Maybe it was time he got out of this work. He was getting really tired of being stabbed in the back and not being able to trust anyone, even his own handpicked team. The lack of people skills probably should’ve been a clue.
Phil reached for the bottle of scotch he kept in a desk drawer and set it on his desk to stare at longingly while he tried to figure out what his next move was.
